Home fires claim seven lives every day, but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half.
That’s why the American Red Cross is rallying volunteers to install free smoke alarms nationwide, as part of our Sound the Alarm events.
This year we’ll install free smoke alarms, create escape plans and share fire safety information in Lamont on March 16th. No experience is necessary - all needed training will be provided on the day of the event.
When: Saturday, March 16th from 8:00am to 2:30pm
Where: Mtn View Middle School - 8001 Weedpatch Hwy, Lamont, CA 93241
There will be three available roles - Installer, Educator, and Documenter.
Installer - Just like you might imagine, the person in the Installer role installs the smoke alarms for the family. We'll provide you with all the necessary tools and do some training on the day of the event so you'll know the best places to put them in a home.
Educator - As the Educator, you'll talk to the family about home fire safety and let them know they may have as little as two minutes to escape. We'll give you material that you'll leave with the family and help them create an evacuation plan. You'll also talk a little about an additional local hazard like earthquakes.
Documenter - The third role is the Documenter. As the Documenter, you'll gather some information from the family and record how many smoke alarms we installed and what information we gave to them.
